Former Bangladesh PM Barred From Traveling to US

Bangladesh's military-backed government has barred former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from traveling to the United States. Ms. Hasina, the leader of the Awami League Party, was blocked from leaving the country today (Friday), just one day after a court ordered the ban.

The interim government is investigating murder and extortion charges against the former prime minister.

Ms. Hasina is accused of taking bribes during her term from 1996 to 2001. She has denied the charges. In April, Ms. Hasina was banned from returning to Bangladesh while traveling in the United States.

The interim government eventually allowed her to come back home. The military-backed interim government has been on an anti-corruption drive since taking power in January during a political crisis.
