Pakistani Militants Killed During Military Operation in Northwest Pakistan

At least 10 militants were killed during a military operation in Pakistan's northwest that followed a roadside bombing that wounded five paramilitary troops.

Pakistani army spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad says soldiers chased militants fleeing the site of the bombing in North Waziristan, firing on their vehicles.

Also on Thursday, Pakistani officials say armed men abducted 16 paramilitary soldiers in South Waziristan. No other information was available.

Violence has risen in the region, a stronghold of Taleban and al-Qaida militants, since the collapse of a peace deal with Pakistani forces last month and a government raid on a radical mosque in Islamabad.
