The main political parties in Bangladesh, Awami League and BNP have welcomed the announcement by the Chief Advisor of the caretaker government in Bangladesh to lift ban on indoor politics.
Presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League Sajeda Chowdhury thanked the head of the caretaker government that he has been able to recognize the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh. Sajeda Chowdhury also thanked the Chief Advisor for saying that the general elections could still be held before December 2008.
On the other hand, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, the Secretary General of a faction of BNP said that the announcement to withdraw ban on indoor politics is a very positive move. Welcoming the decision Bhuiyan said that now political parties can discuss electoral reform proposals within their party and can participate in the meeting of the election commission.
Hannan Shah , the advisor of the detained BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said that lifting of the ban on indoor politics should be unconditional .
