Bombing Kills 15 in Pakistani Army Facility

Pakistani military officials say at least 15 soldiers were killed and 11 others wounded Thursday when a bomb ripped through an army facility near the capital, Islamabad.

Officials say the attack on the commando force occurred at a military dining hall in the town of Tarbela Ghazi.

Unnamed Pakistani officials say they suspect a suicide bomber was behind the attack. Major General Waheed Arshad says the cause of the blast is being investigated.

Reports say the targeted soldiers were part of a unit that stormed the radical pro-Taleban Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) in the capital in July.

Elsewhere, witnesses say dozens of Pakistani soldiers were killed during heavy fighting between troops and pro-Taleban militants in the country's northwestern tribal areas. But the army says only two soldiers were killed and six others are missing. They add at least 50 militants were also killed in the clash.

Reports say the soldiers were killed in a rocket attack on a school where they were based in South Waziristan.

In other violence, Pakistani police say unidentified gunmen opened fire on a bus in the southern city of Karachi Thursday, killing six people and wounding several others.

A senior police officer says attackers on motorbikes began shooting near the campus of the city's main university. The motive for the killings is not immediately clear.
