Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker government in his nearly sixteen minute long succulent speech in the United Nations General Assembly, highlighted his government’s efforts and commitments to hold elections within the time frame work.
He narrated the back ground following which his government assumed the responsibility of running the administration. He reminded that democracy is not an event, it is an ongoing process. Fakhruddin Ahmed mentioned that the fabric of Bangladesh’s democracy “had been torn apart by years of catastrophic corruptions".
In addition to explaining the domestic policy of his government, Fakhruddin also reiterated and reaffirmed the unflinching commitments of Bangladesh to “universal and inalienable human rights”. Fakhruddin Ahmed said that Bangladesh categorically rejects the claims of those who cloak themselves in the rhetoric of Islam to justify terrorism.
