Henry Kissinger , a former US secretary of state , during his Kolkata visit held meetings with Buddhadev Bhattacharya exclusive for forty-five minutes.
Political analysts think that Kissinger was trying to convince Buddhadev , a moderate communist, about the positive aspects of Indo-US nuclear accord for civilian purposes.
However, Prakash Karat, the general secretary of CPM is a strictly anti-American person . He said in Kolkata that mingling too much with US is “dangerous.” But Karat seems to be looking more for the interest of China than of India. He thinks US is trying to woo India against China.
