Jalaluddin, a  Philanthropist, Taxi Driver from Kolkata speaks to VOA Bangla Service


Jalaluddin Ghazi is a taxi driver in Kolkata who runs a school in his native place at Sundarbans, about 95 kilometers away from Kolkata. Jalauddin himself started his life as very poor person and did not have the chance to be educated.

At times he used to beg for a penny in the streets of Kolkata. Since 1998 he has established a school in his own village and is getting assistance from other people.

In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Jalaluddin Ghazi said that his own plight in life made him realize that children need to be educated in order to live a better life. He donates from his meager income to the school fund and also collects donations from his well-to-do passengers.
