US Navy Ship continues its Relief Operation in Bangladesh

Relief operations in the most badly affected coastal regions of Bangladesh is continuing effectively by USS Kearsarge. They started relief and rehabilitation activities from November 22. This ship was in the African region during the cyclone time but quickly joined the relief and rescue operation in Bangladesh. The ship has about 700-800 naval and marine personals. The ship contains more than 16 helicopters.

USS Kearsarge has so far distributed 13500 gallons of pure water and a huge number of blankets but the most important achievement is their success in reaching remote places where relief is needed most.

Rear Admiral Carol M Pottenger, commander of the USS Kearsarge which is now stationed near the coast of Bangladesh, said that the American defence forces would not be involved in long-term rehabilitation operations in Bangladesh’s southern districts that were ravaged by Sidr, this decade’s most devastating cyclone.
