Iraqi police say separate bomb attacks have killed at least 26 people and wounded about 30 others in the volatile Diyala province north of Baghdad.
Police say a female suicide bomber killed at least 16 people and wounded 27 more in the town of Muqdadiyah (Friday). They say the bomber targeted members of a Sunni Islamist group that recently began cooperating with U.S. and Iraqi forces in the fight against al-Qaida in Iraq militants.
Several hours later, a car bomb attack in a nearby village -- also in Diyala province -- killed seven Iraqi soldiers and three members of a local anti al-Qaida group. An Iraqi citizen (Ahmed Jamil Hussein) cooperating with U.S. and Iraqi security forces says volunteers are helping to drive out al-Qaida militants. He says there has been a reaction against the militants because al-Qaida has destroyed homes and forced people to leave.
