Senator Kennedy Endorses Obama

U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has received the endorsement of prominent Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy.

Speaking in Washington Monday, Kennedy said Obama is a man who has extraordinary gifts of leadership and character. He added that Obama can renew Americans' belief that the best days are yet to come.

The boost comes after Obama's big win against Senator Hillary Clinton in South Carolina's primary election on Saturday.

In the Republican race, presidential hopefuls former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Senator John McCain are in a tight race ahead of their party's primary in Florida on Tuesday. Florida's primary is considered a critical contest ahead of February fifth's "Super Tuesday" polls.

On that date voters in 22 of the 50 U.S. states will participate in primaries and caucuses.
