The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has asked the government to file regular appeal against a High Court judgment, which declared the extortion case against Sheikh Hasina under Emergency Power Rules illegal.
The full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin, did not stay the HC order which means it is valid in the meantime. The HC in its judgment on Wednesday also threw out the case. The government moved swiftly against the ruling, challenging its validity with the Supreme Court within two hours of its delivery.
