Suicide Bombing at Funeral in Pakistan's Northwest Kills 38

A suicide bomber blew himself up late Friday at a funeral for a police officer killed earlier in the day in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 38 people and wounding more than 50 others.

Local police say the attack took place as hundreds of mourners gathered in the town of Mingora in the volatile Swat Valley, located in North West Frontier Province. The police officer died in a roadside bomb blast near North Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan. At least two other policemen were also killed in the explosion. The attack came after Pakistan's military said earlier this week that security forces had cleared some 90 percent of the Swat Valley of Islamist militants after months of fighting.
