Bangladesh Requests Burmese Government to Accept Aid for Cyclone Victims

Bangladesh requested Burmese government to receive international aid for the cyclone victims and allow unimpeded entry of aid workers to that country.

Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said that some countries of the UN requested Bangladesh to make that request to Burma. Dhaka sent their request to the Burmese authorities through the Burmese permanent representative in New York.

Earlier, US Ambassador in Dhaka James F Moriarty met the foreign adviser and sought Bangladesh's support in requesting the Myanmar government to allow unhindered entry of aid workers to Rangoon. After the meeting, the US Ambassador said to reporters regarding Bangladesh Chief Adviser's address to the nation that it was positive. He said that US welcomes any step towards democracy. He expressed hope that elections would be held in a way that all parties can participate in the elections.
