Dr Ghulam Murshid is a writer and a research scholar on different literary authors in Bangla. In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, Dr Murshid says that unfortunately Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam remains divided along the communal and the national boundaries.
Although Annada Shankar Roy, a prominent Bengali writer and bureaucrat never wanted Nazrul to be split in the narrow national or communal reasons , Dr Murshid says, the reality is this that Nazrul has been divided along these lines. While in the Indian state of West Bengal , interest in Nazrul is minimal , in Bangladesh Nazrul is widely respected , not as a poet , but as a Muslim poet as a potential adversary to Rabindranath. This division is unliterary and untrue if one studies the secular and humanitarian views of Nazrul reflected both in his life and in his writings.
Dr Murshid says that Nazrul needs to be studied, discussed and analyzed in his totality. It is matter of regret that Nazrul is often seen from different , often contradictory, perspectives which Nazrul himself had introduced in his writings.
The varieties in his writings have led some people to see him in different perspectives. Quintessentially Nazrul remains a poet of humanity and is far above any communal, ideological or national divisions.
