A Dhaka court on Monday issued warrants for
the arrest of eight persons, including former deputy minister Abdus Salam
Pintu, who are accused in the case of the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami
League rally in 2004 that killed at least 22 and maimed scores of people.
Metropolitan
sessions Judge Azizul Haque passed the order after accepting the charge-sheets
of the case filed under Explosive Substances Act.
Although Pintu is in jail, the warrant
for his arrest was issued as he was shown to be a fugitive in the charge-sheet!
The Criminal Investigation Department on June 11 pressed charges against 22 people, including Pintu, his two brothers and Harkat-ul-Jihad AL Islami's operative commander Mufti Abdul Hannan, in the two cases related to the grenade attack.
