Life in the Darjeeling Hills returned to normal on Monday following the
60-hour relaxation in the indefinite bandh announced by the Gorkhaland Janmukti
Police said the situation was peaceful as
people poured out on the streets to stock provisions in anticipation of the
difficult times ahead
indefinite bandh had been called by Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) since June 16
demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland.
to the GJM leaders, the breather was given from 6 p.m. on Sunday following requests of some union ministers to enable school
students to finish their term before summer vacations begin from June 25.
