Arafat Rahman, youngest son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia,
has been exempted from personal attendance during court proceedings for his
illness, while the court deferred till Sunday the hearing of a similar petition
filed for his elder brother Tarique Rahman.
The government, however, is
yet to take a decision on the demands for release of the two brothers to
facilitate their treatment abroad.
Shahed Nooruddin, the judge of the
Special Judge’s Court-3 set up in the Jatiya Sangsad complex, Wednesday relieved
Arafat from being in person in the court during the proceedings in the GATCO
graft case.
The court passed the order after hearing a petition filed by
Arafat on Tuesday.
The same court, however, fixed Sunday for its ruling on
a petition filed on Wednesday seeking exemption of Tarique from personal
appearance in the court.
