Bangladesh, India to Begin Foreign-Secretary Level Talks in New Delhi on Thursday


The foreign-secretary level talks between Bangladesh and India will begin in New Delhi on Thursday.

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Towhid Hossain will lead the six-member delegation in the two-day talks.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will lead the Indian delegation.

During the meeting in New Delhi, discussion will focus on issues of bilateral interest in areas of security, border management, and water resources, sharing of common river waters, economy and trade, cooperation in agriculture and science and technology. Dhaka is expected to press for removal of non-tariff and para-tariff barriers so that Bangladesh can send more goods to India to reduce the bilateral trade gap. Meanwhile,

India is expected to raise issues like transit through Bangladesh and repatriation of Indian separatist leader Anup Chetia , who is now in Bangladesh jail.
