Sheikh Hasina said that the caretaker government in Bangladesh should now go ahead with the parliamentary election. She said only an elected government can solve problems and meet the challenges which are now faced by the present government.
She added that while is supportive of the government's praiseworthy move against a widespread corruption, the drive has often been misguided and the government instead of curbing corruptions have curbed politics.
Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister and the daughter of the slain father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was speaking as the Chief Guest in a program at the outskirts of Washington DC, organized to mourn the 33rd Death Anniversary of Bangabandhu and the members of his family . Hasina, the Chief of Awami League paid glowing tributes to the founding father and narrated the achievements that her government got during their regime.
Amongst others who spoke on the occasion were Bangabandhu's eldest grandson and the Chairman of the foundation Sajeeb Wazed Joy , ex MP Sohel Taj, the son of Tajuddin Ahmed, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh who too was killed ,amongst three other national leaders, in prison in November 1975. The discussion program was presided over by Amabassador Tareq Karim who presented a paper evaluating the life and ideology of the founding father of Bangladesh.
The program was organized jointly by Metro Washington DC Shorbojonin Committee and Bangabandhu Foundation.
