Officials
in eastern India say nearly one million people have been evacuated from
flood-ravaged districts in Bihar state since the Kosi River burst its banks
about three weeks ago.
Officials say at least 20-thousand others have refused to leave their homes.
Thousands of other flood victims are marooned and still awaiting rescue. Many
of them are in the Madhepura district.
Reports say at least 90 people have been confirmed dead in the region's worst
flooding in about 50 years.
The United Nations World Health Organization has said about
three-point-four-million people in India have been affected by the flooding.
And more than 60-thousand people have been displaced in Nepal, where the Kosi
originates.
In Bangladesh, officials say flood waters are expected to recede either this
week or next.
