Nepal's new prime minister is in India to hold talks with officials about cross-border issues.
Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda arrived
in New Delhi on Sunday for a five-day visit. He is expected to meet
with his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, as well as other
high-level officials.
This is Mr. Prachanda's first trip to India since he was sworn into
office last month, but it is not his first foreign travel as prime
minister.
The Maoist leader visited Beijing for the closing ceremony of the Olympic games.
Nepalese officials say the prime minister will reassure New Delhi that
his visit to China does not mean Nepal is cutting ties with India.
India is Nepal's biggest trading partner and its lone fuel supplier.
Indian and Nepalese officials are also expected to discuss recent flooding that has devastated parts of both countries.
And, Nepalese officials say Prime Minister Prachanda wants to discuss
making changes to a 1950 trade and transit treaty with India, among
other issues.
