United States will send observers to monitor the general election in Bangladesh , scheduled to be held on December 18. James Moriarty, the US Ambassador in Dhaka said this to the journalists in answer to a question after his meeting with Rasheda K Chowdhury, the Advisor for Women's affairs. He said, the US in the meantime has decided to send 120 observers.
Ambassador Moriarty said that elections could also be held during the emergency provided the elections are free and fair. He thinks that the top politicians should sit with the government and work together.
He said that the meeting between Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia will strengthen the foundation of democracy in Bangladesh.
