Bangladeshi authorities say a fresh outbreak of bird flu has been detected in poultry in the country's north.
An official in the Department of Fisheries and Livestock says Kurigram
is the fifth district to have poultry that has tested positive for the
deadly H5N1 strain since bird flu re-emerged in recent months.
Earlier this year, Bangladesh slaughtered more than one million birds
after bird flu was discovered in nearly 50 of the country's 64
districts.
Bangladeshi officials say they are stepping up monitoring and preventative measures.
