Prior to the Upazilla Election in Bangladesh army has moved
in to assist the Election Commission and civilian authority . The bustling campaign for upazila
elections calms down after midnight on
Tuesday as the government imposed a ban on meeting or procession in all the 481
upazilas going to the polls Thursday (January 22).
An Election Commission Secretariat
release yesterday said, "The restrictions will continue to remain in force
for 64 hours after the start of voting."
Under strict measures for holding
the important local-body polls the government also banned the plying of all
modes of transport like taxicab, baby-taxi/auto-rickshaw, microbus, jeep,
pickup, car, bus, truck, tempo and engine-driven van in the respective areas
from Wednesday midnight to Thursday midnight.
The prohibition will not apply to transport on the highways.
Besides, ban has also been imposed on launch, engine-boat and speedboat plying
through the election areas.
