'Piyalir Password' is the first Bengali film shot entirely in United States. It is a fast paced murder mystery and suspense thriller based in Maryland, USA. It has the principal cast of Rituparna Sengupta, Koushik Sen, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Roopa Ganguly along with an international cast of actors. The film is written and directed by Raj Basu and Bickram Ghosh composed the music.
The principal photography of the film was completed in twenty days in the location of Howard County, Frederick County and Montgomery County in Maryland, Loudoun County in Virginia and in Washington DC. The post-production of the film has recently been completed. The film is slated to be released in India and USA by early 2009.
Piyalir Password would be Basu’s second feature film, after Wings of Hope starring Roshan Seth, Deepti Naval and Suresh Oberoi. Made for the Indian American community, the award-winning English film explored issues like drugs, violence, pre-marital sex and abortion.
Basu worked as writer and director of television programmes in Virginia before graduating from Hollywood Film Institute with a diploma and certification as independent filmmaker and producer.
