Pakistan's cricket tour of Bangladesh, scheduled to start later this month in Dhaka, has been postponed.
Pakistan was scheduled to play two Twenty 20 matches and five one-day internationals between March 10th and 22nd. Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Jalal Yunus said his country's home ministry urged that the tour be postponed.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt said the tour was postponed two weeks and new dates will be announced soon. The decision comes after gunmen attacked Sri Lanka's cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan as their bus approached the Gadaffi Stadium. Eight Pakistanis, including six policemen, were killed and several members of the Sri Lankan team were wounded.
It is not clear whether Thursday's postponement was due to the attack on Sri Lanka's team or internal concerns in Bangladesh. A mutiny last month by Bangladesh Rifles border guards led to widespread violence. At least 70 people were killed in the unrest, including more than 50 military officers.
