West Bengal government and the central government of India are involved in a dispute about who should control part of the river Ganges.
Bengal government wants the Central government to set up a new controlling authority for the river and wrest control from Calcutta Port Trust.
The state and the Port authorities are often at loggerheads and hence this proposal.
