Law minister Shafique Ahmed on Monday said that
investigation report of the February 25-26 rebellion at the Bangladesh Rifles
headquarters would determine the mode of trial of the culprits involved in the
massacre of officers.
He said that
the government was handling the case with an iron hand and would do everything
necessary for fast tracking the trial of the perpetrators.
‘We are
handling the case with an iron hand. A fast-track trial will be ensured…There
is a provision for court martial under the Army Act, 1952, which is also
applicable to any force raised and maintained under the authority of the
government,’ Shafique Ahmed, a technocrat minister, told reporters at his
office.
He, however,
said, everything would be depending on the results of the investigation being
conducted by the legal authorities. ‘Even how much time will be required before
initiating the trial also depends on the inquiry reports.’
The minister
said that the mode of trial and its process would be determined by the report
of the Criminal Investigation Department of Police since two other teams – one
led by the army and the other set up by the home affairs ministry – were also
probing the February 25-26 bloody rebellion.
