NATO-led forces in Afghanistan say troops killed four suspected militants during separate operations.
A military statement released Saturday says NATO and Afghan forces
killed three militants during a raid targeting insurgent commanders in
Logar province, south of the capital Kabul.
In Khost province, the coalition says one militant was killed after an
unmanned spy plane spotted him and two accomplices placing an
improvised explosive device.
An unknown number of militants were killed in Kandahar province when
NATO and Afghan forces fired on an underground bunker, during an
operation targeting a senior militant in Maywand district.
U.S. officials have said they expect violence to rise in Afghanistan in
coming months as the United States increases its troop presence there.
President Barack Obama has announced plans to send an additional 21,000
troops and trainers as part of a new strategy to combat the growing
Taliban insurgency in the country.
