BD Foreign Ministry Responds to Indian HC's Comments on Illegal Bangladeshis

The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, recently made a statement that 25,000 Bangladeshis that go to India on tourist visas stay back in India every year.

A spokesperson from the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has said that the ministry had not received any information on overstays of Bangladeshis in India.

He has said that the “ministry would like to inform all concerned that the information available with the government does not correspond with the observations of the High Commissioner.”

He also stated that the Bangladesh has not received any note of this matter from the Government of India.

The Indian High Commissioner expressed concerns over rising illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in India and this poses a threat to his government especially after the recent terrorist attacks in the region.
