The presidential reference seeking
Appellate Division’s opinion on laws for the trial of the February rebellion in
Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka was sent to the chief justice Monday,
court officials confirmed.
Supreme Court registrar placed the reference before chief justice MM Ruhul Amin at the latter’s official residence in the evening.
An assistant secretary in the law
ministry, Bikash Kumer Saha handed over the reference to the Supreme Court
registrar at around 3:30pm.
President Zillur Rahman sought the Supreme Court’s advice on three legal options for the trial of the February 25-26 BDR soldiers’ rebellion that left 74 people — 57 army officers, 9 soldiers and 8 civilians — killed in Pilkhana.
