Officials in Bangladesh say the country's former finance minister, M.
Saifur Rahman, was killed Saturday when a car he was traveling in
crashed into a ditch. He was 77 years old.
Police say the accident occurred east of the capital Dhaka (near the town of Brahmanbaria). Rahman was pronounced dead by doctors at a nearby hospital.
Rahman served multiple terms as finance minister starting in the late
1970s and was a member of the Bangladesh National Party. He was
credited with helping to transform the South Asian nation into a free
market economy.
