Former BNP state minister Amanullah Aman on Tuesday landed in jail after he was arrested by detective branch at Zia international airport on his arrival from Singapore.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Farhana Ferdous ordered Aman,
also a former student leader, to be sent to jail.
The court fixed October 8 for hearing on the petition filed by the detective
branch seeking to take Aman in remanded custody for interrogating him in an
attempted murder case.
The court passed the order observing that police failed to produce the
records of the case in time for hearing the petition.
Aman had just arrived from Singapore when the detectives
detained him and drove him straight to a court in downtown Dhaka.
Osman Khan, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist and a businessman from
Aman’s parliamentary constituency in Keraniganj, filed the case with Mohammadpur
police in the capital on May 31. Airport sources said detective branch
arrested Aman after he alighted from a Thai Airways flight at around noon.
Aman travelled from Singapore, where he had undergone medical treatment, via
Bangkok.
