Veteran Leader of
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) , Jyoti Basu (95) was admitted
into the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit of a private hospital in Salt Lake,
Kolkata. He had difficulty breathing and was hospitalized with a pneumonia
On Tuesday, he received a visit from the ex-Chief
Minister of Jammu-Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah. On Wednesday his condition
worsened. He has since been put on ventilator but the hospital has informed
that his condition has improved slightly during the day. CPM Party Chief Prakash Karat is planning a trip to visit
Jyoti Basu on Thursday.
Born in 1914 in Kolkata, Basu became Chief Minister in
June 1977. Due to health issues, he stepped down voluntarily in November 2000.
