India’s Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee proposed creating a national clean energy fund through levying clean energy tax on ‘coal produced in India’ and on imports.
According to energy and power experts, an increase in coal tax, rise in petro fuels and imposition of service tax on railway transportation in the general budget would have a heavy impact on power tariff. Left leaning parties are already on the warpath on petro prices hike.
