Speaker Abdul Hamid Disappointed in Parliamentary Behavior

Abdul Hamid, Speaker of the parliament of Bangladesh, expressed his disappointment regarding the inappropriate and often vulgar behavior of the members of the parliament. He spoke about strict actions that will be taken against MPs who still wish to continue such behavior. But he hopes that no such action will be necessary.

Parliamentary politics has reached a low point with the members of the parliament abusing each other verbally while parliament is in session. Members of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the main opposition party has made remarks against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Members of Awami League, the party in power have also verbally assaulted Ziaur Rahman, the husband of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Speaker Abdul Hamid calls for an end to personal assaults of this nature.
