Tripartite Talks to Settle the Future of Darjeeling Hills

The relationship between the West Bengal government of India and Gorkha Janamukti Morcha is improving during tripartite talks to settle the future of the Darjeeling hills.

The government of India is playing the peace broker. Some arrangement short of a separate state, but with greater autonomy, may be agreed upon in the next tripartite meeting in May.

A seven-member delegation of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) represented the Hill community with West Bengal State Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya presiding over the meeting.

The Gorkha population in West Bengal is a million approximately.
