Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate, MP was accorded a warm reception at the Capitol Hill today (27 April 2010) in Washington, DC. Speaker of US Congress Hon’ble Nancy Pelosi joined about two dozens of Congressman/Congresswoman in welcoming Bangladesh Speaker Abdul Hamid, MP over a launch arranged in his honour at the Capitol Hill.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi thanked her counterpart for visiting USA and hoped that this visit would not only bring two parliaments closer, it will also help multiply people to people exchanges between Bangladesh and USA. Speaker Pelosi hoped that she will be able to visit Bangladesh to see for herself the images of women empowerment in Bangladesh.
Congressman Crowley, welcoming Bangladesh Speaker, reiterated his support for any issues that would benefit, what he described as, the “wonderful” people of Bangladesh. Elaborating on his extensive relationships with the people of Bangladesh origin, Congressman Crowley stated that it is no wonder that Bangladesh has been a “good examples” on so many fields. Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) concurring with the Congressman Crowley, assured his support for Bangladesh.
Speaker Hamid expressed his heartiest felicitation to US Members for their warm reception and thanked Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Members of Congress for their love for Bangladesh. After introducing his bipartisan delegation, Speaker Hamid elaborated on the functioning of Bangladesh and reiterated his resolve to see parliament as the center of democracy in Bangladesh.
Later in the day, Speaker Hamid also had a meeting with House Majority Whip Congressman James Clyburn in the Capitol Hill and discussed issues of mutual interests. House Majority Whip assured Bangladesh Speaker of his continued support and good will for Bangladesh.
