Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the leading opposition party, has called for a dawn-to-dusk general strike on the 27th of June. She said this is a protest against the misrule of Awami League, the party in power.
On Wednesday, Khaleda Zia called for the strike at a rally in Dhaka where the chairperson protested extortion, tender-grabbing issues, and raise in the price of utilities. They also demanded the dissolution of the Election Commission and cancellation of Indo-Bangladesh treaties.
Since Awami League came to power in January of 2009, this is the first countrywide strike that is to take place.
