Saddam Warns Troops Against Treason - 2003-01-28

Iraqi newspapers are reporting that President Saddam Hussein has warned his officers to be vigilant against signs of treason in the ranks.

The Iraqi leader is quoted as telling his military chiefs late Monday that he has no fear of treason, nor should his commanders, but that they should demonstrate the appropriate vigilance in looking for potential traitors among their troops.

He termed treason "an unmanly act" -- calling it the "height of human weakness."

The report comes one day after chief U-N weapons inspector Hans Blix told the United Nations that no evidence has been found to support Iraq's claim that it has disarmed, and that it has failed to fully cooperate with the inspections process.
