Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee says his country is preparing for what appears to be an inevitable US-led war in Iraq.
Mr. Vajpayee told parliament on Monday that all foreign dignitaries who visit India agree war is likely. He said contingency plans are in place to evacuate four million Indians living in the Gulf states in case of war.
Mr. Vajpayee said he would like to see Iraq give up its weapons of mass destruction so the United Nations can lift sanctions against Baghdad. The Indian government has said it is against any unilateral US attack on Iraq.
