Democracy in Bangladesh: Problems & Prospects (Part:20) - 2003-11-02

This episode brings forth a crucial talk between Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , the prime minister designate and later the founding father of Bangladesh and General Yahya Khan, the military leader of Pakistan. On his arrival in Dhaka , General Yahya apparently sought a solution to the stand off to which Sheikh Mujib suggested the withdrawl of martial law and transfer of power to the elected representatives of Pakistan. The question of constitutional vacuum was raised to which the Bengalee leaders gave legal solution. The possibility of a provisional constitutional order was also discussed. Dr Kamal Hossain the only surviving politician who took a pivotal role in Yahya-Mujib discussion narrates the story in details.
