U.S. and Iraqi forces are making a final push to clear Fallujah of insurgents.
U.S. Marine Colonel Michael Regner says coalition forces can now move throughout the city, but are finding small pockets of resistance. He says at least 1,000 insurgents, including some 24 foreigners, were captured during the week-long assault. Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi says one of those arrested is a suspected leader of Jaish Mohammed, which Mr. Allawi says is linked to al-Qaida.
U.S. officials say 38 American troops, six Iraqi soldiers and 1,200 insurgents have been killed in Fallujah. No civilian casualty figures have been released.
An audio tape purportedly from terror ringleader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi called for more attacks on U.S. forces. In Baquba, 20 insurgents were killed after they attacked a police station and a U.S. convoy.
