World Leaders React To Ukrainian Vote Crisis - 2004-11-25

Britain has joined the United States in rejecting the official results of Sunday's presidential election in Ukraine.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says European Union monitors have reported electoral fraud, and Britain cannot recognize the declaration that Viktor Yanukovych won until all legal processes have been exhausted.

The European Parliament announced it is sending a new delegation to Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer says a rerun of the disputed presidential poll could help establish a national consensus.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman called the vote Ukraine's internal affair and China respects the choice of the Ukrainian people.

Poland's parliament urged Ukrainian lawmakers to ensure the final outcome reflects the will of the people.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's outgoing president, Leonid Kuchma, has asked the presidents of Lithuania and Poland to help mediate.

Former Polish president and founder of the Polish solidarity movement, Lech Walesa, is already in Kiev for mediation efforts.
