Blair Mourns British Dead In C-130 Crash

Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair says there were British fatalities in the crash of a C-130 military cargo plane in Iraq on Sunday. In televised remarks, he paid tribute to those killed, but gave no further details or numbers. A British officer said the military would not release any details about the crew until families had been contacted. Rescue teams have been sent to the crash site north of Baghdad. The C-130 aircraft was traveling from the Iraqi capital to Balad when it went down. There was no word on the cause of the crash or how many people were on board, but news reports say wreckage from the plane was spread over a large area. The "C-130 Hercules" is a widely-used aircraft that can be configured to carry heavy payloads or as many as 128 troops.
