Pakistan's president has renewed a call for dialogue with India over Kashmir, but said he would continue to provide "moral, diplomatic and political" backing to Kashmiri separatists. To mark the occasion known as "Kashmir Solidarity Day" in Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf said his country would not waver in its support for Kashmiris fighting against Indian rule. However, General Musharraf said a "just and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute" could only be found through a process of dialogue with New Delhi. He said it was with this purpose in mind that Pakistan embarked last year on what is being called "the composite dialogue process" with India. His effort, he said, would continue to be to engage in a meaningful dialogue for a peaceful and final settlement to the Kashmir dispute.
