A top Indian official says the United States has informed India of its concerns over Iran, as New Delhi prepares for talks with Pakistan on a proposed gas pipeline from Iran to India through Pakistan. India's Oil Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said he was told the Bush administration continues to have serious concerns about Tehran's nuclear ambitions, and can not foresee how events there will shape up. Mr. Aiyar said India has noted the U.S. position and hopes that Washington would resolve its concerns over Iran by the time India finalizes the pipeline deal. Mr. Aiyar's comments confirm a report by the Indian Express newspaper that Washington's concerns were conveyed to him by a US diplomat Ambassador David Mulford). The newspaper reports Washington also has informed Islamabad of its concerns and that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will likely reiterate the message during her visit to the region next week.
