BDR, BSF agree to defuse tension

The four-day conference between the senior officials of Bangladesh and Indian border forces ended Thursday in Agartala, the state capital of Tripura in India.
Both the border forces agreed to undertake effective steps to defuse frontier tensions through mutual cooperation.
‘Peace now prevails in frontiers as Border Security Force has accepted a Bangladesh Rifles proposal to stop erection of barbed wire fences within 150 yards of the zero lines, letting the issue be settled at the government level of the two countries,’ said an official handout issued in Dhaka after the conference.
The deputy director general of the BDR, Brigadier General SM Golam Rabbani, and the inspector general of the BSF, SC Srivastava, led their respective sides at the conference, held in a ‘very cordial and friendly atmosphere’ in Agartala, the handout said.
