White House Says Still No Word on North Korea's Return to Nuke Talks

The White House says North Korean officials have given no indication that Pyongyang is considering returning to the six-nation talks on halting its nuclear weapons program.
State Department officials met with North Korean diplomats in New York Monday. A spokesman for President Bush said Tuesday that the diplomats did not indicate Pyongyang's readiness to return to the stalled talks. He said the White House remains hopeful that they will resume.

The New York talks were the second such direct meeting between the two sides in less than a month.

White House officials say that at the first meeting, officials told North Korea the United States wants it to return to the six-nation talks without preconditions.
