Nicholas Burns Expresses Concerns Amidst Hopes About Bangladesh.

US Undersecretary of state for political affairs Nicholas Burns said that the future of Bangladesh lies in democracy, continued tolerance by the majority groups and by minority groups , continued tolerance on different religious groups and certainly an end to any kinds of active violence, intimidation and extra judicial killings. During his brief visit to Bangladesh, in an exclusive interview with VOA in Dhaka ,he also said that the extra judicial killings that have taken place over the last two years are regrettable. Nicholas Burns also said that positive developments have also taken place in Bangladesh such as the country’s cooperation with the US in fighting terrorism and participation in UN peace keeping mission. But he said that there are big challenges too for Bangladesh. He said that in the meetings he had had with Bangladesh officials he talked about massive corruption , need for protecting the rights of the minority and bringing the criminals to justice who have been involved in political killings in Bangladesh. US wants that the killers should be brought to justice as soon as possible. Mr Burns said that US would not interfere into the internal affairs of Bangladesh and the country needs to solve its own problems. He said that in order to uphold democracy all parties and individuals concern should work hard.
